V6 Conversions offer conversion kits to allow the fitting of Commodore V6  EFI engines to Landcruiser petrol or diesel vehicles. You can use the standard 4 speed transmission or alternatively the Commodore 700R-4 or 4L60-E 4 speed automatic transmission. To comply with Australian emission laws the new engine must have been manufactured the same year or later than the vehicle. The engine must also have all of the emission components connected, including the catalytic converter. The engine must also be run on unleaded fuel or LPG.
In Australia an engineer's report is required after the conversion has been completed. Contact your local RTA office for a list of engineers.

CONVERSION INFORMATION
The kit is designed to allow the use of airconditioning and power steering, you use the Commodore power steering pump and the Commodore A/C pump and adapt the lines. You use the Commodore engine mount rubbers with our weld on engine mount brackets.

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION TO TRANSFER CASE

The transfer case can remain in its original position. The 4-Speed manual kit utilises the GM flywheel and a new bellhousing, the transmission will need to be moved forward and the drive shaft lengths will need to be
altered.

You will need to obtain the following components -
 

* The Commodore V6 engine complete with the main engine wiring harness, the ECM computer and memcal. Other accessories such as the map sensor, purge canister, air cleaner & ducting, airconditioning compressor & power steering pump, engine pipes & catalytic converter, external fuel pump & damper. The standard Commodore in tank, fuel pump cannot be used. We recommend you use an external EFI Commodore V6/V8 pump (Ashdowns part no: BFP070).
 
You can leave your original fuel tank in place by using an EFI fuel pump and modifying the filler neck by way of a return line and restrictor so it will only accept an UNLEADED nozzle, or you can fit a filler neck from the later model.

The wiring kit we have available covers from the VN - VT. It comes in 2 parts, the under bonnet loom with all the relays and fuses and the under dash loom which incorporates an engine trouble light. The wiring kit plugs into the original engine and gearbox loom leaving only 6 wires to be tapped into your vehicles original loom, which are - alternator light, oil light, temp light or gauge, ignition, starter & tacho. Our speedo kit comes in 2 forms, an in line speed sensor or an electronic speedo from VR - VT instillations.

The Series One engines have two crankshaft bolt patterns and starter motor types, the manual transmission type and the automatic transmission type. For this reason they are not interchangeable. However, Series Two and later engines have the same crankshaft so they can be converted from automatic to manual by fitting a flywheel and changing the memcal. This only applies to VN and VP engines, VR and later engines have different computers and wiring looms for automatic and manual.

The standard Commodore in tank, fuel pump cannot be used. We recommend you use an external EFI Commodore V6/V8 pump ( Ashdowns part no: BFP070 ).
 
You can leave your original fuel tank in place by using an EFI fuel pump and modifying the filler neck by way of a return line and restrictor so it will only accept an UNLEADED nozzle, or you can fit a filler neck from the later model.

The Commodore does not have an engine driven fan and the Commodore electric fan and shroud will not fit in the engine bay. An electric fan is required, we recommend that you use a Davies Craig DC16 or similar.

The TH700 is an excellent choice of transmission in a 4WD vehicle as it features a low 1st gear, lower than any other GM auto, with an overdrive top gear, which is ideal for highway cruising.

The adaptor housing has been designed to extend the front drive shaft away from the oil pan for sufficient clearance, thereby eliminating any oil pan modifications. The 700R-4L60E housing also has a mounting pad that will allow you to use a Landcruiser 08/80 on gearbox mounting rubber and cross member to support the rear of the transmission.

The 4L60E transmission is electronically controlled and for correct operation requires a computer to control the shift points. The computer or PCM also manages the engine fuel and timing system. We recommend you use the engine that was factory fitted to this transmission.

The early TH700 and 4L60E transmissions have a rear extension housing secured with 4-bolts. The latest model 4L60E transmissions are fitted with a 6-bolt rear extension housing.

The 4 and 5-Speed Manual Kit, utilises the GM flywheel and clutch along with the Toyota bell housing. Instead of a new bell housing, a flywheel housing is supplied which measures 122 mm/4.8" long. This housing has the GM bolt pattern on the front and the Toyota 1F, 2F, and 3F, bolt pattern on the rear. The kit has been designed to allow for firewall clearance without shifting the transmission or altering the drive shaft lengths.

The gearbox input shaft is coupled to the clutch via an input extension shaft. The shaft has the Toyota internal spline and spigot diameter on the gearbox end with the GM external spline and spigot diameter on the engine end. The front of the shaft is supported in the crankshaft by a sealed ball bearing inside an adaptor ring. The clutch is operated through a thrust bearing extension sleeve, which is supported in a machined boss located in the centre of the housing. On the front of the sleeve is a bearing to suit the GM clutch pressure plate.
